Cycle Training for all ages & abilities
RR & T pct

Sandwell’s Primary Care Trusts now have a well-established cycle training service.

Twenty professional instructors teach:

bAdults (on a one-to-one basis);
bChildren with parents;
bIn courses for secondary schools.

Training is geared to the needs of the individual, so you can choose options to suit yourself:

bLearn to ride a bike, as an absolute beginner;
bOvercome fears of riding in traffic;
bLearn how to plan a route using quieter roads and off-road cycle tracks;
bAdvanced training for existing cyclists to sharpen up road skills.

If you wish, lessons can start from your home - much more like driving lessons than "cycling proficiency". Training is available on weekdays, evenings or weekends. Even regular cyclists benefit from the training, learning how to make better use of road positioning, body language and eye contact when dealing with traffic.

If available, we can loan you a bike for lessons, but it is better if trainees can bring their own, or borrow one from a friend or relative. This would allow them to practice in between lessons. The training is available to everyone. For residents of Sandwell, the normal price for training is just £3 per hour, with the first hour free. Patients of Sandwell GPs who are referred for physical activity are entitled to six hours of free training. For the latest prices and arrangements for Birmingham & Solihull residents, please call us.

For more details or to book a lesson phone Dene Stevens on 0121 612 1660.

Cycling is encouraged because it’s good aerobic exercise that doesn’t put too much pressure on joints, it suits all ages and it can be fitted into everyday life as a means of transport.

Cycle ownership is higher than it has ever been but many are under-used. This is partly because a lot of people don’t have the skills or confidence to cycle - especially if they have to negotiate busy roads for part of their journey. With our training, you, your family or friends can overcome the difficulties you face as (potential) cyclists.
