Introduction

The following information is taken from National Rail's "Cycling by train 2008", - a leaflet produced by Brompton Bicycle Ltd, Lionel Road South, BRENTFORD TW8 9QR.

For more information, call +44 (0)20 8232 8484 or look at http://www.brompton.co.uk.

Cycles are carried on most train companies operating on the National Rail network but each company has its own rules about taking cycles on its trains. You should check details with the appropriate train company before travelling. You can get full details from appropriate train companies, from National Rail Enquiries: 08457 48 49 50 (0845 60 50 600 Textphone, Welsh-speaking enquiries: 0845 60 40 500) or from the National Rail website. Further information may be available on individual Train Operating Company's web sites - see below for a list of companies and their web sites' details.

  • National Rail Enquiries operates 24 hours a day. Calls are charged at local rates.
  • Cycles are carried at owner’s risk (see National Rail Conditions of Carriage for more information – http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/nrcc/).
  • Fees may be charged for conveying your cycle. However for long journeys on several train companies, only one booking fee is charged, but where companies offer different rates, the higher rate will apply. In general, reservations should be made as far in advance as possible.
  • Please label your cycle clearly.
  • Folding cycles completely folded down are carried free of charge. We advise - that you cover your folding cycle.
  • Tandems, tricycles and cycle trailers are not carried unless otherwise stated.
  • Unaccompanied cycles and ones with petrol engines cannot be carried.
  • Cycles are not carried at all times on all services; or on replacement buses during engineering works.
  • Engineering work may affect trains, mainly at weekends. Please check before you travel.
