About Us

Mike Paley

Mike Came to Birmingham in October 1996. It was about a year later when he first got in touch with Pushbikes. He has been fairly active within Pushbikes, attending our meetings regularly and also ones with outside bodies on cycling matters. He has been on a bike since around age 10, starting off on a "Hercules Jeep". His second bike was a brand new "Premier 12" Raleigh Racer bought around 1980.

In 1997 the bike came to a sticky end (and so nearly did Mike) in an accident at the junction of Lister Street and Dartmouth Middleway involving an on-coming 17tonne lorry turning right. Mike made a good recovery, thanks to the skills of the medical profession in City Hospital and the QE, spending about a fortnight in each. Mike was back on a bike again 5-6 weeks after coming out of hospital - taking advantage of a kind neighbour.

Mike PaleyMike wasn't able to find his "ideal" bike and having seen a couple of people with Brompton folding bikes thought one would do as a "second" bike - even though he hadn't got a first ! After a few years of Brompton riding, he now has no use for a "first bike" at all !

Visitors to Birmingham may well see him whizzing around town on his bike as he weaves in and out and around the traffic !

He's been our webmaster since July 2002 and in October 2003 has give the web site a new styling. As he believes the general colour scheme should be chosen by the viewer, and as such has kept the use of colour to a minimum. Only the homepage has full colour control.

He says it's difficult to choose colour schemes as different monitors give different results and so some colour schemes may be fine on some screens but not on others. If you want to have a look at what your monitor will show, have a click here.
