Welcome to pushbikes, a cycling group in Birmingham. We're primarily a campaign group, but organise other things as well.
Aston Students with bikes are suffering; and few people are interested in stopping this suffering. We are, but we need your help. Our main concerns are the thefts of bikes from the campus and the lack of a Bicycle Users Group which other universities have - e.g. BUBUG at Birmingham University.
We have a mass of cycling information on our web site including details of the rides we organise. These rides are social (and usually involve a visit to a pub), some longer, some shorter (15-20 miles) and at an easy pace - so it doesn't matter if your bike has only one speed ! All we ask is that the bike is roadworthy and that you have working lights for the evening rides. The nearest supplier of bikes and accessories is Fletcher's Autostores, just across the lights past the Gosta Green pub.
Please consider becoming a pushbikes, member - claim your student discount and save £5 off the £10 membership fee - that's half price ! You'll get a quarterly newsletter AND a discount at some bike shops including Fletchers. You'll also be supporting a group fighting for better facilities for cyclists in Birmingham. Some Aston staff are already members and we are in touch with them regarding facilities at the University, but they are not really interested in students' cycling issues.
